Oscar Corridor: Best Actress Update

Ellen Page – Juno

So far, the front runner. She is the breakthrough actress of the year in a role surrounded with rave reviews and sympathy, she’s the one to beat.

Julie Christie – Away From Her

A legend making a comeback of sorts, in a role that is truly unforgettable, if she is able to pull off a SAG win, as a nomination is a lock, she will replace Ellen Page as the front runner.

Marion Cotillard – La Vie En Rose

No doubt she will get nominated, but will she be able to pull of a win? She has a few precursors under her belt already, but I’m not sure if that is enough for her to pull of a Best Actress win in a foreign language film, it rarely happens. She would deserve it though.

Amy Adams – Enchanted

Amy Adams, in a Disney film, getting nominated for most of the precursors, and nobody saw it coming. She plays a charming role in a family film, and she does it so well. She is almost a lock, but more so if she is able to pull of a SAG nomination, which I am sure she will.

Angelina Jolie – A Mighty Heart and Keira Knightley – Atonement

Both need a substantial boost from the Screen Actors Guild, but Angelina is more of a chance, Keira’s role is overshadowed by the excellent supporting players in Atonement, whereas Angelina ’s is the life and soul of A Mighty Heart.

Almost There:

Cate Blanchett – The Golden Age
Laura Linney – The Savages
Helena Bonham Carter – Sweeney Todd

I Think Jodie Foster and Laura Linney (Especially after her GG snub) are out, but only time will tell.
