Predictions: BAFTA ‘07

Posted in Film Awards at 4:19 pm by Nick Plowman

So the Brits have their say tonight, 11pm on South African TV to be exact, in their very own interpretation to the Oscars. To be fair, it is usually a fun affair even if, yes I will say it, they are a little biased when it comes to British films, so expect Atonement to win more than a few little bronze masks.

It is no different with AMPAS actually, not that many British films have won Best Picture before (Hamlet, Lawrence of Arabia, Tom Jones, Chariots of Fire and The Bridge on the River Kwai come to mind). Anyway, here are my winner predictions…..after the cut that is……

Best Film:
Atonement

Best British Film:
Control

Best Director:
Joel and Ethan Coen – No Country For Old Men

Best Original Screenplay:
Michael Clayton – Tony Gilroy

Best Adapted Screenplay:
The Diving Bell and The Butterfly – Ronald Harwood

Best Film Not In The English Language:
The Lives of Others

Best Animated Film:
Ratatouille

Best Actor:
Daniel Day-Lewis – There Will Be Blood

Best Actress:
Julie Christie – Away From Her

Best Supporting Actor:
Javier Bardem – No Country For Old Men

Best Supporting Actress:
Saoirse Ronan – Atonement

Best Film Music:
Atonement

Best Cinematography:
Atonement

Best Editing:
The Bourne Ultimatum

Best Production Design:
La Vie En Rose

Best Make Up and Hair:
La Vie En Rose

Best Costume Design:
Atonement  (that green dress…..)

Best Sound:
The Bourne Ultimatum

Best Visual Effects:
The Golden Compass

Orange Rising Star Award:
Ellen Page (I voted for her, and told everyone else I know to do the same, will it pay off?)

So if my predictions come true, which I highly doubt because I think I may be overestimating Atonement’s influence on the awards, Atonement would walk away with 5 wins. It better win loads here, it probably won’t win too much at the Oscars later this month.
