So the 50th Grammy’s were held yesterday, as were the Bafta’s, and a lot of people won in a lot of categories, including 4 wins for my favourite music freak, Amy WinoWinehouse. Wow, good for Michael Giacchino and Ratatouille. That score also won the Annie as you know.
I would love to see it take the Oscar since Greenwood was snubbed.

I don’t think Ratatouille’s Grammy win really means anything Oscar-wise, considering all the scores in beat were 2006 scores.

I wouldn’t mind if it won the Oscar either, but I loved the Atonement score too.
I guess it doesn’t really make a difference, but I think that I have been underestimating Ratatouille shot for the win, and this kind of makes me think it has a shot. If it can beat Babel’s and Pan’s Labyrinth’s score, it could very well beat the other nominees this year.
I do think Greenwood made the best score this year, no matter what happens after all is said and done, the Oscar always belonged to him (I don’t care about those pesky little restrictions that were put in place).

The release years for these nominees are all mixed up, it’s too confusing for me.

I know, when I first read the nominees, I was like “what the filth?!”
And I didn’t agree with any of the winners either.

I think the rat might take the Oscar actually. Atonement seems invincible at the moment and won the Golden Globe and International Film Music Critics Association Award for best score, but winning a Golden Globe is usually a bad thing for anyone trying to win an Oscar, but we’ll see.
As for the nominees here, I felt Blood Diamond was the best score, Falling Slowly was the best song and Once was the best compilation.

I think Atonement was the best *original* score last year, but that is just my opinion. I still believe Jonny Greenwood’s score for “There Will Be Blood” was the best last year, better than Dario Marianelli’s for Atonement, but AMPAS has all those pesky rules….
Here were my picks:
Best Song: Falling Slowly – Once
Best Score: Babel
Best Compilation: Across The Universe
Me and Mr. Grammy have very different taste.
