Ew, I cannot believe how they cut her off.
Nick Plowman said,

I am so thrilled!!!!!! And cutting her off was rude – but she has an Oscar, I’m sure she doesn’t mind too much – ONCE ONCE ONCE WON.

Jon Stewart let Marketa Irglova go back and give her speech – how awesome is he!!! That is something special :)

Thanks Matt, it’s less than I got last year, but this year we had some surprises didn’t we?

What a great night.

Wasn’t it?!
It was quick and clean and magical and unforgettable.
I loved every second of it, even if there were one or two surprises that I predicted wrong, and have cost me money in an Oscar pool :)

BEST. OSCARS. EVER.
I wish I had gone in a pool this year, because I went 20/24 :D . I only missed Costume, Visuals, Sound Editing, and Adapted Screenplay (damn my PTA support).
But huzzah to Cotillard and Swinton undying support!
And yes Nick, I was THRILLED that Jon brought her back on stage…best moment of the night :P .
Nick Plowman said,
February 25, 2008 at 8:52 am
Agreed.
Whoa, that is fantastic, 20/24 – jeez!
I should have stuck with my Tilda Swinton predic that you convinced me of, I have no idea why I changed it back to Blanchett (…Blandshit….).
Cotillard rocked – what a goddess.
Not an American winning an acting award – interesting.
The Oscars truly are International, hey.

Didn’t do so well in the Oscar pool I participated in, but it was a fun night nonetheless. So many wins for Bourne Ultimatum! I’m glad that Daniel Day-Lewis and Javier Bardem won in their respective categories. I was surprised by the Tilda Swinton win for Best Supporting Actress, but I’m sure she deserved the accolade. And yay for Juno! It didn’t take Best Picture, but it got Best Original Screenplay, which is still pretty good.
Loved Jon Stewart’s comment, “Thank goodness for teen pregnancies.”
Nick Plowman said,
February 25, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Me either – a friend of mine predicted the Bourne sweep and got 21/24, makes me ill!!
I am also thrilled for Bardem and Day-Lewis, but more for Cotillard. I really want Cate Blanchett would win supporting – I guess not.
Yip, my Queen, Diablo Cody did me proud. I’m glad Juno got something, and most people agree it deserved O. Screenplay even if not Best Pic.
I loved that too, I thought Jon did a good job, it was really a good show – loved it!

ACADEMY AWARD-WINNER MARKETA IRGLOVA.
When Jon brought her back out is, honestly, the greatest moment I’ve ever seen in my life.
GREATEST. NIGHT. EVER.
WHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehe, well, at least you didn’t listen to me about PTA winning Screenplay ;) . But yeah, Michael Clayton was bound to get something. And I love Cate all over again…I mean, did you see her reaction to Marion winning?
HOW GREAT WAS THAT?!
Such pure, genuine joy!
And yeah, first time since 1964 that not a single acting winner was American-born. Also, Marion being the first French-language winner = YAY!
Okay Nick, it’s all over. Now, we have to discuss 2008’s possibilities :P .
Nick Plowman said,

@ J.D. I could not agree more, BEST NIGHT EVER – damn straight. I cannot wait to get Once on DVD now, I was just reminded of how much I LOVED that film. *on cloud nine*
@James
Well the TWBB screenplay was immaculate, it was amazing, it was award worthy, I could go on…..!
I should have listened to you though, I would have won more in my Oscar pool! Cate’s reaction (and I just it again right now, the Oscars are being re-broadcast in SA right now) was one of those “that’s why I love the Oscars” moments – magical. Cotillard was the finest actress there, and her performance was the finest of the year. The Oscars being all International, I am glad for all the winners – all deserved. From now on, I am going to follow the BAFTAs more closely, they are way better precursors to base the outcome of the Oscars (the acting anyway) than any other, esp. the pathetic Globes.
Soon my friend, soon. I will post my first predictions soon enough, they are always a laugh. Later Guys.
Cinemaniac James said,

Immaculate is right. But I have confidence he’ll nab something someday, don’t you? And yeah, BAFTA > Globes/SAG, for they share the most members in common. But at least the Globes recognized a foreigner, which they haven’t done since the ’70s.
And hey, sometimes early predix turn out to be the best–well, those few that come before the biases set in =P. For example, in 2006 I went balls to the wall. After Sundance reviews turned up, I noticed Lisa Schwarzbaum’s massive praise for Gosling in Half Nelson. For some reason, I instantly shouted in my head “Best Actor nominee”…yeah. In January, haha. Oh well, that ended up feeling pretttty damn good. And even better months later when the rumors of LMS began to churn, I looked it up and saw Arkin was a part of the cast…and I called him as the winner right there–albeit, out of a huge bias. I was excited at the opportunity to award a long overdue comic veteran, so it just seemed right…but even I was astonished that his nomination was turning out to be something feasible. And then, like Cotillard over Christie, I knew the lovable Arkin would triumph over the cockspit that is Murphy =P. So ya know, basically, early, gutsy, sensible calls can often lead to some immense glory later on ^_^.
But we’ll talk about that soon, my friend. And I made a list of stuff for this year…lemme know if you wanna take a look at it.
Nick Plowman said,
February 27, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I was totally the same with Arkin and Gosling! Gosling is one of my fave young actors, and Half Nelson was great. I am freaking glad Arkin won over Murphy – I am no fan of Murphy, even if his performance was v. good, I cannot see him as an Oscar winner – gross.
Last year, in the beginning of last year I was predicting Reservation Road, Charlie W. War, The Kite Runner, Atonement, My Blueberry Nights etc as big Oscar contenders, and look how that turned out, only Atonement became a real success. CWW is still cool though, the Kite Runner was not awful and I still cannot wait to see Blueberry Nights.
I am thinking that this weekend, when I am done compiling my early list for 2008, we could talk and predict and debate and argue etc. Would that be okay? If you want to post your list so far, you can do so with pleasure – I would love to see it.
Cinemaniac James said,
February 29, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Sure would be fantastic. We just need to figure out where to talk at…AIM, MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger, etc. I’ve got ‘em all, so you pick =P. I’m excited to do so though, as no one else I know is nearly as interested this early on. Me, I can’t wait–and American Idol predicting can only fill the void so much, haha. But this will be interesting, to see if either of us omitted anything from our lists and what each of us do/don’t believe in.
I, too, was on The Kite Runner train, because I read the book and thought it was amazing and powerful and figured the film would be, too. I still haven’t seen it, but yeah, I lost faith sometime in the fall with the controversy. As for CWW, I honestly never believed it would get anything more than Adams or Hoffman in supporting. I thought CWW = Good Shepherd and Lions/Lambs = Bobby. Suck all around ^_^. Yeah…I despise Sorkin trying to write movies. Ugh. But I can’t wait for Blueberry either! Too bad it’ll be too arty for Oscar and too early…I equate it to Zodiac, unless it gets a campaign going. My list requires some fine-tuning, because I threw in a lot of other indie flicks, but I think I’ve got a good idea of what the top 50 films with Oscar potential might be. Can’t wait to compare/contrast!

Awesome!…well, I added you on both my Yahoo and MSN (because apparently, you can add users of each on both, so ya know, make my life easier). Talk to you soon then XD.

I wish I could edit my comments, because I forgot to tack on that before either of us post our early predix, we must have the debate first.
But anyways, I need to shower and think of Javier, so off I go!
Nick Plowman said,

Okay, I agree, debate first, predix after. I posted a list of films I am interested in on the Oscar Corridor 2008 page, but it is very rough. You go, um, shower, and I’ll be waiting for you! :)
