Catching-up on the Down-low: Fataculture in 2008

*Warning: Major self-indulgence to follow*
So my lap top gave up on me on Thursday night, so excuse my absence, I know you all missed me like a hole in the head.
I have done an extreme amount of catching up in terms of seeing 2007 films that are only released in South Africa now, and I promise reviews will be up soon – when I am done with the crap load of school work that has just been thrown into my face. School is ruining my blogging life, and blogging is ruining my school life, good thing my life revolves around cinema.
I need to get over my obsession with buying DVDs, or at least quit feeling so guilty all the time. “If I was a rich boy, lalalalala”
*I need to clear my head, or I will have a meltdown* – This is not just me being melodramatic. I seriously feel the world is swallowing me up. Manic depressive much?
Fataculture is still a small little film blog - and I like it that way. I am planning a major revamp, not visually, but content wise. I will be posting way more reviews, and fixing up old ones. A lot of them were just “first thoughts” or “festival reviews” and seeing as though 2007 was a Great year for cinema the reviews deserve nothing less. I just don’t feel content with any of them, but that’s an emotional problem I need to deal with. 2008 better be a great year, it just better. The Soundtrack page has not been updated in a while – sorry about that too. Sorry, sorry, sorry.
So I just got back from seeing the best film of the year, No Country For Old Men. I cannot say too much right no, I’m still in awe. Review coming soon, when I can breathe again.
Here’s what I have seen recently:
No Country For Old Men
Juno (again, I know I cannot help myself)
Michael Clayton (went for a second helping, but the people wouldn’t let me get a discount – so I left)
Sweeney Todd
Stephanie Daley
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Things We Lost In The Fire
Once
The Kite Runner
The Counterfeiters
Katyn
Taxi To The Dark Side
No End In Sight
All 2008 Oscar nominated short films, live action and animated, not that I was paying too much attention.
And here’s what I have left on my 2007 list (even though I am sure there are more not on my list that I will end up seeing)
There Will Be Blood
I’m Not There (full film)
Charlie Wilson’s War
Sicko
The Diving Bell and The Butterfly
More I am guessing, but my fried is brain.

Aww, Nick! I hate it when my fried is brain too! It happens to all of us every now and then. Try putting in the freezer for about two hours, and then in a microwave for 7 and a half seconds. It always helps it become un-brain! :)
Can’t wait to read your No Country review too. I may not be that much of a fan of it (I really, really need to see it again), but it truly is the mesmerizing, brilliant masterpiece everyone on earth thinks it is.

Good advice, I’ll get right on it ;)
T’anks, I can’t wait to write it! I seriously want to see it again too hey, absorb it all – I don’t think one viewing would do it justice. Hope you feel better.

OMG, I have to thank you for having this entry, because…if not for this, I would’ve COMPLETELY forgot about my sexyamazing dream last night.
Oh, Javier……………………DAMNIT, I’m off to the bathroom now….

lol! Seriously?! Pleasure is all yours, um, mine, whose pleasure is it? I don’t think it matters….
This guy who sat next in the to me in the cinema sort of growled in excitement during the scene where Javier is in the bath and then on the toilet – it was hillarious.

Hahahaha, it’s everyone’s pleasure.
And…growled, did he? Ahhhh, so good I watched that one at home XD.

Must be!
Yeah, like a lustful, dirty, *I want your babies* growl. So weird!
I envy you. I wish I could have seen it at home too.

Ok, hm… as much as I think Javier is hot indeed, in No Country, he was too scary for me to enjoy seeing him in the buff. Like, populates-my-nightmares-rather-than-my-sexdreams scary.

Awesome stuff! Can’t wait to see what you have planned. An update to the soundtrack section would definitely be nice ;)
