Guillermo del Toro to direct “The Hobbit”

Yesterday afternoon, Peter Jackson, and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich and Mary Parent announced that del Toro has agreed to direct “The Hobbit” and its sequel, hoping to release them in late 2011 and 2012. Rumours be gone…

So it’s true? True-true???

Yeah, true-true.
Strangely, I did not explode from the news, and I do not know why.

If the Hobbit is going to happen, it might as well be del Toro…but I’m in the with Nick in not exploding.
I’ll be more excited when the movie finally rolls around though and I’ll be there opening day.

Spot on about del Toro.
I echo everything you said Craig, totally.

I’m excited about this, but I still wish Jackson was doing it. Still…Del Toro is a genius and I can’t wait to see what he does with “The Hobbit,” which is a story I’ve always been more attached to than LOTR.
I just hope they get Howard Shore back to do the score.

I remain ambivalent. I think Jackson is a better director overall, but I would LOVE to see what del Toro can come up with.
And about Shore, I am so with you there.

If Shore doesn’t do it, I might have to protest it. :(
