Coming Soon: “Hamlet 2″
Stupid me for my anticipations: 2008’s Little Miss Sunshine/Juno?
Hamlet 2, which premiered at Sundance this year, is about an upcoming comedy about a politically incorrect high school sequel of the play “Hamlet,” which the drama teacher (Steve Coogan) writes after the school threatens to shut down the theatre. Also starring Catherine Keener, Amy Poehler, and David Arquette, I think it looks, and this is just at first glance, good. Who knows, that is why we “must see” it. Or not for you, but there is no way I am missing it.
It is set for US release by Focus Features on August 22 {limited} and expands on August 29. South African distributors cannot think that far ahead, so I have no idea when I will see it.

I’m in the middle of playing Hamlet for my acting class right now, so I’m especially looking forward to this one. Should be a blast.

I love being able to say that this is from the studio that brought us Atonement, Brokeback Mountain and Dan in Real Life.
And OMG Melonie Diaz is in this too?!

Matt, that is awesome, I have no idea what Hamlet is about really, I suck, but the film looks irresistible.

When I first read the title of this movie, I thought, “A sequel to Hamlet? Didn’t everyone die in the first one?” Glad they addressed that question in the trailer, haha.
But this movie looks like a lot of fun. It has an incredible cast; I love Catherine Keener and Amy Poehler is probably the best cast member on SNL right now. The song in the trailer is extremely catchy too. I smell a hit.

Marcy, I know EXACTLY what you mean, I thought it was a sequel too, but then came the funny trailer…
Agree with everything you say, I too think Poehler is the best person on SNL right now, not that I am an expert, but I do think the show is not as funny as it was. I doubt Poehler will stay there much longer, she is having success on the big screen and all….
Caitlin, my dear friend, “Rock Me, Sexy Jesus.” is SO funny, it pretty much sums up why I want to see this film, if only it could come a little sooner.

I love Steve Coogan…hence I’m on board for Hamlet 2. I’m not watching the trailer though. I don’t want to ruin anything.

Good, good, I don’t think I would have seen the trailer either, but if I hadn’t, I would not have the amount of excitement for the film that I have. i.e. it was only after the trailer that I really found out about the film.
