Nu Metro Screening: Be Kind Rewind

Fans of the Nu Metro Page on Facebook are being treated with a free screening of “Be Kind Rewind” on the 20th of May, three days before it is released commercially. This is a good thing for us who will no doubt be going through intense “Indiana Jones” mania that same weekend, and little time will be dedicated to other films - or so I assume.
I missed the press screening of it back in Feb, and have been kicking myself ever since.
“Jack Black and Mos Def star in this new comedy from the wild imagination of Academy Award-winner Michel Gondry about two best friends, one electromagnetic field, and every movie you’ve ever loved.
When Jerry becomes magnetized while trying to sabotage the power plant that he believes is melting his brain, he accidentally erases all the tapes in the old-fashioned video store where his best friend Mike works. To keep the store’s few customers happy, Jerry and Mike decide to remake one of the erased movies in Jerry’s junkyard. To their astonishment, their unique version of the movie is a hit. Mike, Jerry, and soon, friends from the neighborhood are in full-time production, re-making movies, from Ghostbusters to King Kong, and, in the end revitalise not only the business but the entire community.”

The first half hour of this left a lot to be desired (not ruining anything here - it’s just the magnetizing thing), but I found myself mostly entertained in the second half. I was disappointed by the initial buzz for this out of Sundance, but I’m glad I saw it and I won’t dissuade you from discovering it for yourself.

Yeah Danny, I have heard it is less than stellar, but I am oddly fascinated by the premise - I hope it is not a HUGE disappointment but my expectations are pretty low anyway.
And, J.D. - I know right? Ever since seeing her in “Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” I have been a big fan of hers myself.

I think I liked it a little better than most people, but I wanted to like it more.
Look foward to hearing what you think of it Nick.

I read your review - I think I’ll like it too, but who knows.
It is about time - I may miss this free screening but it opens on the 23rd of May anyway, so I will see it eventually.
