Make sure you watch the mini-series first but bare in mind that the show is a big step up from it. The Wire has to be seen from the very beginning. I think the "Friday Night Lights" and "The Wire" are the two most underrated shows on television, in terms of awards because fan-base wise, they have a ton of loyal fans. Me included.
