Trailer: “Body of Lies,” Updated
The international trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Body of Lies,” even though I thought the titled had changed to “House of Lies,” has hit the net and I feel more or less indifferent. Nothing of Scott’s has really blown me away recently, I mean I couldn’t even spit out a full review for “American Gangster.” But his projects do scream Oscar before they are even filmed, but something about his overblown, grim dramatic style just doesn’t do it for the Academy, or anyone else really. Call that extreme generalisation, but whatever, the truth stings.
The film, based on the Washington Post columnist David Ignatius’ 2007 novel, stars Leo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe [even though I am more excited to see Carice van Houten in it] as opposing CIA operatives, with Roger Ferris (DiCaprio) going undercover to uncover CIA stuff on a terrorist leader operating out of Jordan. To do so, he will need Ed Hoffman’s (Crowe) support, but soon Ferris questions just how much he can trust those around him without putting his operation, not forgetting to mention his life but somehow lives are always second to operation, on the line.
Unfortunately, the trailer looks about as interesting as watching paint dry, paint that you have seen dry countless times before. Let’s hope the trailer is a gross misinterpretation of how the film will end up. They usually are, and I bet this one is too. To a certain extent anyway.
“Body of Lies” is released in the US on the 10th of October, and in SA on the 17th.

I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling underwhelmed by Scott lately. Having said that, I’ll be seeing this anyway. I haven’t given up on him yet. Anyone responsible for Blade Runner and Alien gets the benefit of a doubt from me.

I am on that same wavelength man, Blade Runner literally changed my life when I saw it, and Alien was SO cool when I saw it with my friends on TV (we were like 9 or something). But I think he is unfocused or something, maybe even lacking in ambition. I don’t know, but I am always hoping he’ll turn his ways around and give us what we want; the best he can offer.

I realized yesterday I kind of feel the same way about Michael Mann. I’ll see Public Enemies but…I don’t know. He doesn’t do it for me.

I prefer Scott to Mann because Scott has given me more that I like compared to what Mann has given me.
Pulic Enemies is all about the cast for me….

We got this trailer before the Dark Knight (boo, no Watchmen trailer for us!) and I have to say, the audience laughed, which was kind of sad.
It looks distinctly boring to me. Not good, not bad…just…there.

I agree, totally boring. And that’s a shame…maybe.
