Sony Classics eyes “Synecdoche, New York”

Just when I thought “Synecdoche, New York” was going to disappear into austere nothingness, its appears as though Sony Pictures Classics is in final talks on officially acquiring the Charlie Kaufman helmed film that didn’t quite get the raves I thought it would at Cannes this year. That release date would put it in perfect contention for the awards season, and with a cast that can boast Philip Seymour Hoffman, Samantha Morton, Michelle Williams, Catherine Keener, Emily Watson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Dianne Wiest, awards watchers will no doubt keep their eyes peeled. I know I am.
The film, deemed “special-effects heavy,” cost about $20 million to make, and Sony Classics plan to pay a price somewhere in the low seven-figure range for US rights. The original cut was 4 hours long, and was subsequently shortened for its festival unveiling, and Kaufman has said that he plans to cut the film down even further before its official release. Am I the only one who takes the luke warm Cannes reviews as a good sign?

Yeah, I honestly cannot wait either.
Craig, now that you mention it, I guess it totally could be a good sign. I had never thought about it before. I hope its a good sign…
