Film Festival: NYFF ‘08, Cannes Heavy, As Expected

NYFF 2008: 26 September - 12 October

A while back we, meaning me, reported that “The Class,” this year’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner, would open up the New York Film Festival, and now with the anticipated announcement of the full schedule, it looks as though yet another festival is dipping heavily into the Cannes line-up. A full 17 films out of a total of 28 are Cannes spin-offs.

Notable highlights are Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” filling the Centrepiece slot, Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler,” the closing night film, Steven Soderbergh’s “Che,” Mike Leigh’s “Happy-Go-Lucky” as well as a whole lot more. [Hollywood Reporter]

Yours truly is GOING TO NYFF THIS YEAR!!!

    Wana come with Nick? ;)

If you want, I can review the films for your site…I’ll drop you an email.

  2. Justin said,

There is nothing there that I do not want to see. Life is unfair.

  3. Nick Plowman said,

Kerry…that is so awesome/unfair that you get to go! You better tell me what you think of each film…I am so jealous :)

p.s. that smiley is smiling, but I am not.

  4. Sam Juliano said,

Well, I live only a few miles from the site of the NYFF, so I would be foolish not to make that special effort to secure tickets this year. Especially desirable would be the Aronofsky, Soderberg, Eastwood and the French film that won the Palme d’Or, THE CLASS. This is one of the richest lineups in years.

  5. Nick Plowman said,

I know, I read that y’all are sort of planning a little something-something, and I for one am jealous. But like I said to Kerry above, another NYC resident, enjoy Sam :)

  6. Mike M said,

I’m looking forward to seeing Che, and the Wrestler.

The line up nonetheless looks great

  7. Nick Plowman said,

Too true my friend. Wish we had some good fests here in SA, besides DIFF.

  8. Justin said,

Lucky you Sam…can you fly me to NYC and sneak me in?

  9. Kerry said,

    I can try Justin ;)

  10. Sam Juliano said,

LOL Justin! The “flying you in” from SA is the problem, but the “sneaking you in” would be a cinch!!!

  11. Nick Plowman said,

We SA folks should be so lucky to make it to the NYFF someday…I’m going to start saving.

  12. Dave said,

Good for you Nick, I’ve been going to NYFF for years, this year shall be no exception.
