For a festival that already boasts, amongst other titles, “Rock N Rolla,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” “Miracle of St. Anna,” Rachel Getting Married,” “Religulous,” ”Burn After Reading,” many Cannes spin-offs and “Appaloosa,” the latest news that Toronto is not done unveiling its line-up is headache inducing [for those who don’t plan on making it to the festival]. The fnal line-up will be announced on the 19th of August. But for those who do, it’s safe to say one might be spoilt for choice. The smart thing for me to do would be to stick my fingers in my ears and whenever someone mentioned Cannes, Venice, New York or Toronto festivals I could yell “your mother, your mother, your mother” at them until they leave me alone, but instead, let’s look at the latest TIFF additions.

Some films now included in the TIFF line-up:

  • “Synecdoche, New York,” Charlie Kaufman’s Cannes entery that was not picked up for Venice or New York
  • “Che,” both parts – which played at Cannes and is to play at the NYFF as well
“The Wrestler,” New York, Venice and now Toronto too, this one is shaping up to be a personal must-see
  • “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” the R-rated film by Kevin Smith
  • “Genova,” Michael Winterbottom’s addition, starring Colin Firth
  • “Brothers Bloom,” the follow-up by the filmmakers of “Brick”
  • “Me and Orson Welles,” with Christian McKay, Claire Danes and Zac Efron
  • “Gigantic,” with Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman Paul Dano and Zach Galafianakis
  • “The Burning Plain,” directed by Guillermo Arriaga, starring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger
  • “Slumdog Millionaire,” by Danny Boyle
  • “Inju, la bête dans l’ombre,” thriller set in Japan by Barbet Schroeder
  • “Management,” a rom-com starring Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn
  • “Easy Virtue,” with Colin Firth and Jessa Biel
  • “Is There Anybody There?,” from the director of “Boy A”
  • “Stone of Destiny,” the festival closer by Charles Martin Smith. starring Robert Carlyle.

Our friends at The Playlist are going to Toronto this year, and we are super happy for them. But if we ever see y’all walking down the street, and there’s bus, I might just push you in front of it…all I’m saying.

Another worthwhile line-up, especially the overlaps with New York. Of course, I can’t make it there, so I’ll concentrate on New York.
