Coens Prepare For “A Serious Man”
Posted in Upcoming Film tagged A Serious Man, Burn After Reading, Coen Brothers, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Richard Kind at 4:18 pm by Nick Plowman
Any Coen Bros. news is good news, and the Coens adoring site Living in Cinema points us to the Variety article that says Michael Stuhlbarg and Richard Kind have been cast in their latest pitch-black period comedy, “A Serious Man.” Stuhlbarg, a Tony-nominated actor with apparently little experience in front of the camera, and Kind, of TV’s “Spin Cty,” will play brothers in the film, set in 1967. It tells the story of Larry Gopnik (Stuhlbarg) whose life begins to fall apart at the seams when his wife leaves him, and then his brother (Kind) refuses to move out of his house.
The Coens latest flick, “Burn After Reading,” premieres in the U.S. next month, after screening at both the Venice and Toronto film festivals. Shooting for “A Serious Man,” to be distributed by Focus Features, begins in Minneapolis next month.

Straight after No Country they did Burn After Reading, and now they are doing A Serious Man, which means that for the remainder of this year and then next year we are guaranteed 2 Coens brothers films. Woot.

This is better news than a 3 hour long Fincher film…

I am blacking out in terms of this film now, until it gets released, later :)

Should be great, but the two men cast don’t sound very impressive…

It’s a Coe-Bros movie. It doesn’t matter – they always get great performance out of everyone.
And I like Richard Kind.

That is true J.D., although I am not much of a Kind fan, perhaps the film will convert me.

I don’t doubt that for a minute J.D., I’m just not fans of those two cast members, not the way I was with Javier Bardem or Josh Brolin, and past Coen-collaborators.
But the fact that they are relative unknowns could be fun. They might just surprise us. Well, the probably will.

Boy they are really on a roll after previous releases were spaced out. And Ethan even penned a successful off-Broadway show last year that was uproariously funny.

I’ll be the Fataculture correspondent reporting in as things get rolling here in Minneapolis.

That, my friend, would be just awesome :)
The prospect of you doing some guerrilla reporting on a Coen Bros makes me smile.
