Finalising Toronto, At Long Last

Continuing with our long running tradition of self-abuse, the final additions to the 33rd Toronto line-up have been announced, nothing major but nonetheless jealousy inducing. There are a total of 249 films screening, with 76% of them being some sort of premiere. The festival runs from the 4th to the 13th of September, for the complete list of films screening go here. Courtesy of indieWIRE.
It turns out the Coen Brothers latest film “Burn After Reading,” starring George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Brad Pitt, will have it’s premiere in Toronto, just a few days before it opens in the States. Anyone lucky enough to be attending will also be treated to a “in the works” preview of the star studded vignette-filled film “New York, I Love You,” featuring the directorial efforts of Natalie Portman, Faith Akin, Scarlett Johansson, Brett Ratner, Allen Huges, Yvan Attal, Randy Balsmeyer, Shunji Iwai, , Shekhar Kapur, Joshua Martson, Mira Nair, Jiang Wen and Andrey Zvyagintsev, and starring, amongst many others, Shia LaBeouf, Ethan Hawke, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Orland Bloom, Kevin Bacon, Hayden Christensen, Olivia Thirlby, Christina Ricci, Julie Christie and Drea de Matteo.
Other last minute inclusions are:
- “Nothing But The Truth,” starring Vera Farmiga, Kate Beckinsale, Angela Basset and David Schwimmer
- “Pride and Glory” starring Colin Farrell, Edward Norton and Jon Voight
- ”The Lucky Ones,” starring Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael Pena
- “Who Do You Love,” starring Alessandro Nivola
- “The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond,” starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Evans, Ellen Burstyn, Mamie Gummer, Ann-Margret and Will Patton
- “Dean Spanley,” starring Peter O’Toole, Jeremy Northam, Sam Neill and Bryan Brown.
And not a word of “W,” which isn’t much of a surprise. But hey, there is that Paris Hilton doc to look forward to, “Paris, Not France.”
I’ll be following the reception of certain films the way I did for the Cannes film festival, you never know what might come out as the hit of the fest. This is just me laying the groundwork before I can actually go to the fest, which is soon I hope.

Haha, I have tickets for this “goo” festival, but I am exactly sure how many films I will be able to see. There are obviously some I will not miss, and others I will try to see but if I don’t I won’t be heartbroken.

Same here. Just reading that PDF up there makes me feel so nervous, I really want to see everything! But I guess I should not be greedy.
