Clooney Joins Reitman in going “Up in the Air”
Mr. George Clooney is in talks to star in Jason Reitman’s adaptation of Walter Kirn’s novel “Up in the Air,”
having recently completed the script he had been working on, on and off, for five years. I have mentioned before that I am pretty hopeful in terms of the outcome of the film, as the book is one of my recent favourites. [Variety]
Clooney is set to play Ryan Bingham, a “Career Transition Counsellor,” who lives his life collecting frequent flier miles with the hopes of eventually reaching the 1 million mark. Like I have said before, he’s an odd man and I would be curious to see how Clooney handles him.
The last time a Kirn novel was adapted, the film was “Tumbsukcer” and the result left a little more to be desiered. However, with Reitman attached and Clooney sort of attached here, things could end up better this time around.

You know, I was always curious about Thumbsucker, mainly b/c the kid in it looked talented. But I get it confused with Chumbscrubber… Chumbscrubber is the Jamie Bell one, right?

Yeah, and ultimately I prefer Chumbscrubber, Jamie Bell is awesome.

George should be great in the role, methinks. For what it is worth, I wonder how Reitman will handle the subject matter. I am on the fence in that regard, because I don’t have that much faith in him as a director.

I think Reitman has grown as a director in leaps and bounds and look forward to whatever he does in the future.

I am with you there Salmaya, but I do think he hit the jackpot with “Juno” because such talented people were involved and I did not think he had to add to much of his own input into the film, but whatever.

Jamie Bell.
What were you talking about?

Never saw CHUMSCRUBBER, but I loved THUMBSUCKER. At least the first time I saw it. It didn’t hold the same charm for me when I revisited it. Not bad, but it hit me just right the first time I saw it.

Weird. Clooney and Reitman? Well you know I’m no fan of Reitman, but Thumbsucker was a little interesting, and Clooney brings it, too.

You know, he is seared into my brain as Billy Elliot, it is hard to see him now all big and um, grown up. I will NEVER forget when he kissed his gay best friend, that was sweet ;)

I cant believe some of its gonna be filmed in St Louis. Im so excited considering i live there and I want to be a writer/director. So i am hoping to be able to get some kind of off screen job hopefully so i can get and inside look at hollywood and movie magic. But i cant find anything to help me do an off screen job. So if anyone can find a site or w/e then i would appreciate it very much.
PS Sounds like its gonna be funny as fuck, and the plot about Clooneys character is new and creative and will make a good movie.
