Springsteen Writes Closing Credit Track “The Wrestler,” For “The Wrestler”

As if Aronofsky’s latest project hadn’t already caused majorly embarrassing salivation on my part, what with the prospects of seeing Evan Rachel Wood and Marissa Tomei in a film by the man behind “Requiem for a Dream” and “The Fountain,” but now word is that Mr. Bruce Springsteen himself has written the closing title track for “The Wrestler.” Even though the director and his crew have been struggling to get their film finished as fast as possible, the finishing touches are apparently almost finished, but those going to New York, Toronto or those in Venice right now (where the film will premiere this Friday) are probably not going to hear the track. Which is fair, since they can’t have it all you know. [The Playlist]
Aronofsky had the following to say in regards to the track, “”Bruce Springsteen wrote a beautiful original song for the closing [of] the film. Called THE WRESTLER” it is a wonderful acoustic piece. Makes me choke up every time I hear it. He really captured the spirit of the film and Mickey’s character in the piece.”

“Majorly embarassing salivation” hahahah.
Where do you stand on Aronofsky’s other stuff? The Fountain etc… I thought the Fountain was highly underrated, but that’s just me.
As for Springsteen…yeah I don’t know, but if Aronofsky likes it, it’s ok with me. Nothing wrong with Bruce mind you. I’m not a huge fan of his style, but I admire his skills.

This is great news, Springsteen is a legend. Oscar nominee for best original song, “The Wrestler.”

The Wrestler better be good, or I will effing hate Aronofsky for life.

God I am so stoked for this, too bad I won’t [maybe] hear that track playing over the credits. Sigh

Ditto Kerry, but let’s not rub it in everyone’s faces, especially Nick. I’m sure he’ll make it to Toronto very soon.

Same here Craig, I too admire Springsteen’s skills. I loved “The Fountain,” which I only saw after I was strongly recommended it – for some reason I never wanted to see it in theatres. I also loved Requiem for a Dream, and I really love Aronofsky’s style of filmmaking.
Jerry – why are you so hostile?
Kerry and Dave – As long as you report here after you see whatever you see, all is well. Enjoy it :)

Aronofsky 4 lyfe. Srsly. The Fountain gives him immunity for at least 20,000 bombs from me. I doubt this’ll bomb, but it’s guaranteed to be a very interesting picture, right?
Still haven’t managed Requiem. I’m not THAT mentally strong.

Right JD, indeed. You should see Requiem, it’s totally insane but awesomely so. It’s scary as shit though.
Just for the record, JD gave me the strong recommendation – for that I owe him my life.

You do not. I’m not good with managing lives.
You probably owe me a lap dance, though, but I can wait for my payment…
*whistles*
I wish I could whistle. *sigh*

JD, when you’re right, you’re right. And you’re right.
So much Fountain hate made me mad.

THE FOUNTAIN was my #1 film of 2006, and one of the three or four greatest films since the new milleneum. How’s that for hyperbole? Anyway I am thrilled that both Craig and Nick feel the same way, and I am most excited about THE WRESTLER, which I hope to see at the NYFF later this month if possible.

I hope we get this at the Fests of Fests, I cannot bare to wait long.
I enjoyed The Fountain, to a certain extent but it wouldn’t be in my top 10 for 2006.

Nick, did you see Pi, Aronofsky’s 1st film?
Its great. Really great. You must see it.
I loved the Fountain. Requiem is ridiculously grim but fantastic. Ellen Burstyn is a legend. Will always love her for that (oh, & all her other brilliant work from the 70s).
Springsteen is a legend. Aronofsky is an artist, Wood & Tomei are… well, hot. (& talented…), Mickey Rooney is actually a huigely underrated actor, & I loved him in Sin City.
All in all – can’t wait to see it, & to hear Brice Springsteen once again perform @ the Oscars.

I did see Pi, and I did like it a bit. I really love Aronofsky’s work, so I will not miss this for the world.
Yeah Lily, seeing him perform would be great.

If he get’s an Oscar nom, that’d be great. I would love for this film to get Mickey a nom too.

I don’t know how big the other roles are, but I hope Evan Rachel Wood is good. Or rather, I hope everyone else thinks so – and she gets some award love. But these are just my hopes, after I see the film I will say exactly who or what deserves Oscar attention – minus my bias.
Kerry said,

Oh yeah, I’d kill to see him perform at the Oscars!

Wow, that IS some hyperbole, Sam! Haha, but just fine. The Fountain, seen only once by me in the theater, has somewhat faded, but I certainly appreciated the vision and effort.
Springsteen + Soundtrack = Gold. Jerry Maguire? Philadelphia? Um, yes.
Nick Plowman said,

Um, HELL YES. Totally awesome, if “The Wrestler” is as good as “Streets of Philadelphia” I will be over the moon. But I am not getting my hopes up.
