Trailer: “Milk,” Gus Van Sant Does It Again

Finally, after having to wait forever and a day, the trailer for Academy Award Nominee Gus Van Sant’s “Milk,” the Harvey Milk biopic, has just been released by Apple. Featuring the likes of James Franco, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Diego Luna and Emile Hirsch, this may just be my most anticipated film of the year, and one of the most mysterious too. Until now. All I have to say is, sound the Oscar bells. The trailer is one of the best I have seen all year, and the same can be said for the “Paranoid Park” trailer. Just amazing. All I can say. Can’t wait.

My oh my…superlatives do not even suffice. Looks like Van Sant scores again. I hope

Um… holy Christ. I started to cry a little. It’s beautiful. I… DAMN. I felt happy and sad at the same time. I really hope it’ll be more hopeful than despondent, not just about what Milk did and fought for, but for what’s going on now and in the future. If it is, then I fully expect to love the fuck out of it.

I didn’t anticipate Diego getting billed, though! Love him.

  7. Hey, baby boy…

As I was saying over at LiC and INSIDE THE GOLD, this looks pretty damn spectacular.

All of the elements together just seemed to be building towards expectations that are IMPOSSIBLE to fulfill.

But this appears to be MUCH MORE than promising.

Looks like this is going to be something to look forward to.

    Seriously…..

Controversial, emotional, vital…it’s a shame this is not on the festival circuit, it would have been so great at Out in Africa! Anyway, I love the cast and it looks as though they all do great work. The only odd thing was the display of the writer’s name, who is he?

I don’t know much about the Harvey Milk story, so this would be a film of discovery for me. Being a huge Van Sant fan myself, I like the direction he seems to have taken, one that is more simplistic, but powerful as always.

I watched this film getting filmed, and I never thought it would be that great, but now the trailer has me thinking the opposite.

  14. Dave said,

Are you serious Kerry M? I thought everyone was into it.

  15. Eleanor said,

I am so into it, best trailer of the year indeed – of the last few years at that. I am in awe of Gus Van Sant (I met him a while back, great, great guy) and I think he is one of the best directors out there.

  16. Kerry Moss said,

Yip, it just isn’t hitting me as hard as it has others, but I’ll let the film speak for itself.

I can only hope and pray the film is as good as the trailer, but there is no doubt in my mind that it won’t be amazing. Not one tiny speck of doubt.
