“30 Rock” and “Gossip Girl” to Collide?

The masterminds behind two of television’s finest shows, “30 Rock” and “Gossip Girl,” should get a huge fat raise for this little piece of television ingenuity. In this news story by EW’s Michael Ausiello that is now three days old (like a year in internet standards) he talks about his exclusive scoop that Blake Lively and Leighton Meester are really close to securing a deal that would see the two former BFF’s guest star in a November episode of “30 Rock.” Apparently, the two will play younger versions of old school mates of Liz Lemon’s at a 20-year reunion via a flashback that will reveal that, oh my god, Lemon was in fact a mean girl. No word on who will play the older versions of Lively and Meester’s characters, although Robyn Lively (Blake’s older sister) is not out of the question. Expect ratings to go through the roof, as if they could get any higher. Hottest guest appearance news in a long time, no? Far better than the news of Oprah, Jennifer Aniston or Matthew Broderick guest starring. And as for “Rock” becoming “Will & Grace,” which I love too by the way, I don’t think that’s going to happen. Or at least I hope not. [EW via Big Screen Little Screen]

You know, I have to tell you, I really enjoy this blog and the insight from everyone who participates. I find it to be refreshing and very informative. I wish there were more blogs like it. Anyway, I felt it was about time I posted, I’ve spent most of my time here just lurking and reading, but today for some reason I just felt compelled to say this.

I don’t watch Gossip Girl, but I love 30 Rock and I fear that too many guest stars does mean less screen time for the main cast members just as that EW article says. I don’t want that, but the flashback thing could be cool since it might actually serve a purpose, where as Oprah’s appearance probably doesn’t.

I’ve already said over in Popwatch that all these casting coups don’t seem out of place on “30 Rock” because of the nature of the show, so I won’t rehash that too much.
I don’t get why everyone’s so quick to call “30 Rock” the new “Will & Grace”: we all know “Ugly Betty” IS the new “Will and Grace.”

At least in 30 Rock and Ugly Betty the placement of random famous people is more normal as those shows revolve around working class people working around famous people, whereas in Will and Grace it was not.

When I saw this news on Friday, I kinda… violently creamed myself. Graphicness apologized for. It’s, like, the epitome of OMFG, though!

I think I saw this on Friday as well on IMDb and I literally just stared at the computer screen with my jaw hanging for at least 30 seconds. Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, the funniest show on TV and Tina Fey playing a mean girl? Could life get any better? Oh wait, it has: our modern day Jesus (Oprah) is in final talks to be on the show as well. Dreams really can come true!

I am still cautious as to Oprah’s involvement, but I am warming up to the idea, I guess. I love her, like insanely, but I am really weary. Why, I have no idea.

This is such great news! About two of my favorite stars on one of my favourite shows, guest starring in another one of my favorite shows. You’re right Dame, dreams totally come true.
