Pot-stirrer, Nikki Finke is at it again. The shit disturbing blogger of Deadline Hollywood has published an internal MGM memo about the public perception of Tom Cruise’s upcoming WWII Nazi film, “Valkryie.” The memo basically shows MGM all gung-ho and enthusiastic that the new trailer for the Bryan Singer directed film is going to play well with audiences and result in big box-office returns. It’s pretty hilarious to see a studio take the online temperature reaction to a film. Are they paying someone to troll blogs and message boards? Absolutely.

“Currently, reactions to the Valkyrie trailer are significantly favorable (approximately 80%) within Entertainment, Fan-Boy, Video Sharing, Social Networks, Social Bookmarks, and Fan communities. Fans deem the trailer “fantastic,” often praising the “stylistic” way that the footage was cut and asserting that it is “way better” than the initial teaser.”

But you know what? And we hate to contribute here, but they’re right. The new trailer is a lot better. Having read the rather average and sometimes aggravating screenplay, we can totally say at least the opening North Africa scenes seem pretty nailed.

The “lack of German accent still a problem” section of the memo, i.e. what the haters and gripers are saying is pretty hilarious (but it is true, at least Tarantino is getting it right for his WWII film)

“While the majority of buzz about the lack of German accents is neutral, the topic is fueling discussion among online audiences. Critics contend that their absence creates a “lack of cohesiveness” while supporters believe that their inclusion would make the film appear “cheesy.” There were also numerous users sharing mixed opinions on the topic, stating that while the lack of accents is “distracting” and anticipate it will “take some getting used to,” the trailer “looks amazing” and they intend on seeing the film upon its release.”

The rah-rah memo gets even funnier when they discuss fans’ reactions to the new “Valkyrie” posters (which in our minds are total ass and nowhere within the tone of the movie at all).

“I definitely want one of these up on my walls right away.” The stills garnered high profile placement with features including the LA Times – The Envelope and Fan-Boy sites such as Joblo. The Official Website has also had several mentions about its “cool new features.”

The only people who want one of these are their walls is someone with colorblind taste and aesthetics, frankly. Fanboys must feel validated though as their notoriously picky (which in actuality is love everything attitude) selves are mentioned numerous times throughout the communique. We will note that the trailer also seems to illustrate that Tom Cruise nails the self-righteous asshole tone of his unwavering and pretty unlikable protagonist in the script.

We didn’t love the script, but we’re hoping that Bryan Singer can elevate the material and we’re glad he’s finally off the super-hero beat and back to the thriller/suspense beats of “The Usual Suspects” for this one.
