Eight Short Documentaries Make The AMPAS Shortlist

“Tongzhi in Love”
Every year around this time, a whole bunch of Academy shortlists are announced pertaining to a whole bunch of films most of us have never heard of mainly of the “short” filmmaking variety, mostly because the “short” categories receive far less attention than the feature length categories. I barely ever pay much attention to these categories myself but, in 2008, I plan to change that. AMPAS released the shortlist below, highlight eight potential candidates of which only five will be nominated for Best Documentary Short come the 22nd of January.
“The Conscience of Nhem En,” by Steven Okazaki
“David McCullough: Painting with Words,” by Mark Herzog
“Downstream,” by Leslie Iwerks
“The Final Inch,” Irene Taylor Brodsky
“Smile Pinki,” by Megan Mylan
“Tongzhi in Love,” by Ruby Yang
“Viva La Causa,” by Bill Brummel and Alonso Filomeno Mayo
“The Witness from the Balcony of Room 306,” by Adam Pertofsky

Yeah, I’m definitely keeping an eye out for the shorts too this year, so far I have seen “Tongzhi in Love” and “Downstream,” both are very good.

That Smile Pinki sounds absolutely heart-warming, but I would like to see all of these 8 I tell you, I am a huge fan of short documentaries and films too.

Yeah, so those sound pretty great, nice that we get a list to focus and see what APMAS thinks are the best of the best – makes it that much easier to keep and eye out for them and see them as soon as we possibly can.

The three I linked up there are the one’s I am looking forward to most, I think, and after being able to see pictures of them, read a bit about what they are about, unlike the unlinked ones, they certainly sound great.

Mark Herzog’s “David McCullough: Painting With Words” intrigues me the most.

New to this blog, and wondering if anybody can help me find out how or where to look to see these documentary films, short and feature films.
Thanks

I know the Oscar nominated short films (live action, animated and documentary) should screen in the States early Feb.
