In or Out? ‘The Road’ To Open in 2009?

Imagine how this year would be cinema wise if The Weinstein Company just got their shit together or just gave up completely? Firstly, there was/is that whole “The Reader” debacle, and now it seems as though the latest Cormac McCarthy adaptation “The Road” might not be ready for its 14 November ’08 limited release due to production delays, including the fact that it is apparently not even half edited. Execs are meeting today to discuss whether or not it will be ready for its scheduled 2008 release as it has apparently already been quietly moved to December, or if they could simply cut their losses and move it to 2009. [EW/THR]
Directed by John Hillcoat, and featuring Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce, “The Road” has been considered by many as a bona fide Oscar contender, something Harvey Weinstein so desperately desires, but its buzz or even updates for that matter have been subdued these past few months and it isn’t all that surprising that it may not open in time.
I do think that “The Road” is probably a better example of what I would consider a surefire Oscar bet than “The Reader,” and Kate Winslet will probably be nominated for “Revolutionary Road” but all Mortensen has this year really is “The Road.” This Oscar season is officially up in the air, and I am not sure whether or not that is a bad thing or if it just makes it all a little more interesting – even if it is as the expense of not being able to see a few good films this year as was initially the case.

Well, if it is moved to 09, that sucks.

I just finished reading this and almost nothing happens in the entire book. There’s where the editing probs are – there is no actual story.

Ha! Well finally, here’s a book I did read over the summer at the insistance of my neighbor!!!!!
Sorry to differ with you Damon, but (nothing happening) is really besides the point. The visionary language, the use of metaphors, the quiet tension all contributed to a unique literary experience. That’s why McCarthy is so revered in literary circles.
Similarly I CANNOT wait for this one, and am saddened over the roll-back. My sentiments are completely with Daniel and Gosh Watcher.
