Hollywood Riffs: Antonio Banderas In Talks To Play Salvador Dali, ‘Coz Two Upcoming Dali Films Weren’t Enough
Antonio Banderas, an actor I admittedly think little of, is in talks to play the scandalous artist Salvador Dali in the indie biopic “Dali,” directed by Simon West. There two other Dali films in the works too though: one with Al Pacino (”Dali & I: The Surreal Story”) and one with Robert Pattinson (soon to be seen in “Twilight”) titled “Little Ashes.” Do we really need three Dali films in such a short space of time? I think not. [Variety]
Ash Adams’ “Once Fallen,” starring Ed Harris and Amy Madigan about a father and son who deal with all the pain and pleasure family life and prison bring respectively, now has Brian Presley and potential Oscar candidate for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” Taraji P. Henson attached and is currently shooting in LA. [THR]
Annette Bening and Naomi Watts are set to star in Rodrigo Garcia’s “Mother and Child,” a multi-faceted drama featuring overlapping story lines revolving around adoption to be exec-produced by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Kerry Washington and Shareeka Epps (the magnificent young actress from “Half Nelson,” one of the best films in years) will also star in the film that at one point had Robin Wright Penn and Brittany Robertson attached. Filming will begin early next year. [Variety]
Marc Foster, who directed the upcoming James Bond instalment “Quantum of Solace,” has signed on to direct an English-language, US located remake of a Korean action film called “Die Bad,” focusing on gangsterism and to be written by Brad Ingelsby (The Honeyfields, Low Dweller), for Universal Pictures. Usually Asian remakes suck so bad I don’t even bother, but depending on my take on “Solace,” I might just give this one a watch some day. [First Showing]
NeoClassic Films has acquired the North American, U.K., Australian and South African (not “South American,” as Variety notes, although they will correct their error now that I have mentioned it) rights to Jordan’s first entry into the Best Foreign Language Film race ever, the Sundance-award winning “Captain Abu Raed,” to be released Stateside next year but opening in LA this weekend. [THR]
The Museum of Modern Art is starting a new annual Oscar-candidate survey, “The Contenders,” that will run from the 14th of November until the 12th of January, screening the likes of “The Dark Knight,” “WALL-E,” “Frozen River” and “Happy-Go-Lucky,” as well as special screenings only for MoMA members, such as “Che” on the 13th of January and “Revolutionary Road” on the 2nd of December,” to be introduced and discussed by Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sam Mendes. “I Want To See,” starring the goddess that is Catherine Deneuve, will be unveiled there too on the 13th of December. [Variety]
Fandango has stated that nearly 100 show times for “Twilight” are already sold out. This is only the beginnng, keeping in mind that today is the 6th of November and all, and they film opens on the 21st. [Collider]

Mother and Child now sounds far more interesting with those two additions, as does “Once Fallen,” Taraji P. Henson is an amazing, amazing actress. From Hustle and Flow to Talk To Me, definitely an actress to watch.

I love the sound of that MoMA series, definitely something I am not going to miss. I just want to say that Captain Abu Raed isn’t that good as some have said and it won’t end up nominated for the Oscar.

Twilight is going to be huge, I mean the sequel is in the works, and its a pretty kick ass book, so it might be good and make a lot of money too; which is rare.

Dang, that MOMA series would be awesome. Reason #4,528 Why It Would Be Awesome to Live in New York City if You Could Afford It.
