‘Kung Fu Panda’ Leads Annie Nominations

Posted in Film, Film Awards tagged at 11:34 pm by Nick Plowman

“Kung Fu Panda,” snubbed just a few hours ago by the Satelittes, have scored a massive 17 Annie nominations this year, including individual nominations for character animation, character design, directing, music, production design, storyboarding, voice acting and writing, over “WALL-E’s” 8, and “Bolt’s” 9. WALL-E is certainly a lock in terms of taking home the Best Animated Feature award, but the love for Kung Fu Panda in most of the other categories sure is deserved. For the full nominee list, AwardsDaily has your back.

Best Animated Feature

• Bolt
• Kung Fu Panda
• $9.99

  1. I hope this means PANDA is now a lock for an Oscar nominations. I can’t imagine it getting snubbed.

  2. Bolt <3333 or even better, Rhino! what a cutie. He deserves his own movie.

    I didn’t love Kung Fu Panda. I REALLY don’t get it’s acclaim, either. :(

I liked KUNG FU PANADA, but it is light years away from WALL-E, which is one of the year’s greatest films in any category.

  5. Yay for Kung Fu Panda! I absolutely adored it, but that’s probably because I have a soft spot for pandas. It’s not as good as Wall-E, but it certainly deserved its nominations.

I think the majority of the reason why I liked KFP so much was because of extremely low expectations. I was dreading seeing this, dreading it, the trailer was awful, it stuck out like a sore thumb at Cannes, blah blah, but I did like it, perhaps even love it, I gave it an ‘A’ I think, and I really hope it does get in the final three at the Oscars. I am more curious about what will join WALL-E and Panda at the Oscars, because that is still pretty uncertain.

At this point, Bolt would be my best guess. Bashir seems WAY too out there.

Should I see Bolt? Who else has seen Bolt?

Bashir, yeah, it does look too out there, but I still want to see it more than any of the other no-yet-released animated films up there.

See Bolt, its quite fun. I think the final three at the Oscars will be: WALL*E, Kung Fu Panda and Bolt.

The day I saw Wall-E I was forced to watch Kung Fu Panda. Overall I thought KFP was a better film. In fact, I thought the best animated film I saw that night was the short “Presto” which accompanied Wall-E. Wall-E’s best bet at an Academy Award would be at Screenplay (other then a good shot at Best Animated Film) but I am hoping that the 17 nominations KFP received puts an end to the possibility of Wall-E as a Best Picture contender.

I saw Bolt in 3-D and it was ok. The best thing about the movie was Rhino the disillusioned hampster. I do think that these 3 films will be your set for Best Animated Film…but it would not surprise me if something else sneaks in and knocks Bolt out.
