Hollywood Riffs: Sundance Lineup Revealed, ‘Veronica Mars’ Movie: On/Off?

Veronica Mars, one of the best television shows about teenagers or about anything actually, ever, ended after three seasons, which broke my heart and it still has not been put back together. Kristen Bell, aka Ms. Mars was a heroine for the ages, a smart, blonde, sassy McHotty, and the end of her breakout show seems to have sparked the end of an era. There have always been rumours of a possible big screen reincarnation, none of which I took seriously for the sake of maintaining my sanity. But then Vulture comes along as fans the flames. Michael Ausiello is to blame, really. Apparently, there might just be a movie yet. [EW]

Sundance have revealed their lineup and…I couldn’t care less. But some of you should. Some of you should even go to Sundance next year. I was going to do an entire post about it, but it is totally worthless to me. I will say that the film I am most interested in now, superficially, is “Arlen Faber” – I mean, Kat Dennings, Lauren Graham and Olivia Thirlby? Yeah. [indieWIRE]

The Golden Globes, brought to you by a drunk William Holden (LOL, J.D.), have released their Foreign Language long list. It’s long, it’s a list, it has a whole bunch of movies in which funny languages are spoken; and I don’t care until the actual nominees are announced, plus I haven’t seen most of them. Meanwhile, Dev Patel in “Slumdog Millionaire,” Kate Winslet in “The Reader,” Phillip Seymour Hoffman in “Doubt” and Ralph Fiennes in “The Duchess” and “The Reader” have all been deemed supporting performances.

7 word Benjamin Button review, brought to you by Nat Rogers: “Big Fish redux. Great effects. Molasses pace.” 1 word answer: “gulp.”

The Playlist on “Gran Torino,” “the film is a winner in that it accomplishes everything that was written and everything that its template set out to achieve (it’s also a lot funnier than you’d think). Now whether people jive with that script/template is another story, it’s probably going to be polarizing without having pre-informed yourself with the screenplay.” Sometimes reading a screenplay before a film really can help, but why should we even have to, right?

The latest “Che” trailer. I cannot believe how gaga some people were going for the mere idea of this film, and now it is almost, I dare say, forgotten about? The power of poor advertising and marketing perhaps? I have no idea. I am still incredibly interested in seeing it, but if it ever gets a proper release in South Africa, I will [insert something really weird here] in a crowded fish market. Anyway, and the “What Doesn’t Kill You” trailer doesn’t seem like much, but the film might just be okay. Maybe. It’s Mark Ruffalo, who cares how good the movie is.

By the way, “Frost/Nixon” is not as lame as some have suggested. Although I do think I liked it more than I should have. Langella is brilliant. This weekend, see it, and “Hunger” too if you can. Even though it is released wide in March. Because they’re worth it. P.S. You guys wouldn’t mind if I take my time with my “Frost/Nixon” reivew, right? I’m having a crisis of the heart, and I want to take my time until my brain becomes not blinded by the sight of lust/indie-perfection-in-work-clothes incarnate, okay?

One day, when I am much, much older, I will get boring and talk only about mvies and nothing to do with my personal life, okay? For now, y’all will just have to deal with my crazy (like I have to do with a LOT of you). Or not. Whatever. For now, I’m shaking things up and I don’t care.
