‘Dark Knight’ Gets Boost With PGA Nomination

Best Film:
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
“The Dark Knight”
“Frost/Nixon”
“Milk”
“Slumdog Millionaire”

Best Animated Film:
“Wall-E”
“Bolt”
“Kung-Fu Panda”

Best Documentary:
“Man on Wire”
“Trouble the Water”
“Standard Operating Procedure”

As we near the date when the Oscar nominations are announced, I am still having a hard time comfortably predicting what they final five will be but that’s the way the game works I suppose. A steadfast four seem to be the most recurring denominators of most prediction lists – “Benjamin Button,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Milk” and “Frost/Nixon” – leaving the fifth and final nominee very much up in the air.

There are two commercially and critically tested potentials – “The Dark Knight” and “WALL-E,” neither of which I honestly assumed could be in the final five until a few weeks ago – and “Doubt,” “Revolutionary Road” or “The Reader” as most probable candidates.

Hot on the heels of the PGA nominations being announced just a few minutes ago, “The Dark Knight” gets a much-needed push in my opinion and may just please all its annoying fanboys by scoring a Best Picture nomination after all. The announcement of the DGA nominations on Thursday will provide more ammunition for predictions, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris Nolan made the cut, even if he isn’t on my list of preferences. Ha, good to see you back into the awards postage, awesome. TDK is the best example of a money making critical darling in ages, so a PGA nom was almost in the bag since day one. If it gets a DGA nom, then I will think it has a better chance at the big Oscar nom.

    my latest best pic predix:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
    Milk
    Slumdog Millionaire
    The Dark Knight
    Frost/Nixon

I hope Frost/Nixon doesnt get in though. Its not as good as Rev Road, or even Doubt.

Im just glad TCCOBB is getting the attention it deserves. TDK can suck it.

I wouldn’t mind if this ended up as the final five, but I’m not exactly hot for Frost/Nixon being in there all of a sudden, especially if TDK is going to make it.

Throw in Rev Road or The Wrestler even and I’ll be thrilled. But of course, the Oscars aren’t out to thrill me. So be it.

  4. “Standard Operating Procedure?” WTF?

Right??! And, Trouble the Water was SO well produced as well, yeah.

I am shocked Encounters didn’t make the cut, but anyway.

  6. Seriously. “Trouble the Water” was extraordinary for its home video footage, and SOP was OVER produced. “Encounters” would have made a much better choice, as would “Waltz with Bashir,” but I’m not sure if foreign films are eligible for a PGA nom.

I’m very pleased about TDK getting a nod. Looks like it might make the final cut for BP.

I do not support THE DARK KNIGHT for a Best Picture nom, even though i like the film. There are just too many great films out there this year.

SOP is my favourite doc of the year…over produced? What do you mean?
