BAFTA: Foreign and Rising Star Nominees
Now, while the BAFTA’s aren’t particularly meaningful (like, at all) in terms of the Oscar race, they have been known to put on quite a good show (Daniel Day Lewis mentioning Marion Cotillard’s balls is a fond memory) with a star studded arena, all of which pleases me to no end. Today, the foreign nominees as well as the Orange Rising Star nominees were announced (by Shia LaBeouf, no less) [In Contention]
Foreign Nominees:
“The Baader Meinhof Complex”
“Gomorrah”
“I’ve Loved You So Long”
“Persepolis”
“Waltz With Bashir”
Having only seen three of those (and hopefully “Waltz” by the end of the week, maybe) I don’t have much to say on those, but they are all great choices I suppose. I don’t know much about “The Baader Meinhof Complex” other than that Alexandra Maria Lara stars in it, so I am looking forward to it despite a lukewarm reaction from British critics. Right now, my guess is that “Gomorrah” is the one to beat.

Shia LaBeouf, the winner of last year’s Rising Star award, announced the nominees for this year and all I gotta say is: REBECCA HALL. And if she doesn’t win, well I give up. Oh life in general. The full nominations for the BAFTAs announce on the 15th of Jan.
Rising Star Nominees:
Michael Cera
Noel Clarke
Michael Fassbender
Rebecca Hall
Toby Kebbell

If a movie god exists it’ll be Fassbender all the way.

Fassbender gave an excellent performance, but I don’t see him as a rising star, whereas that is exactly what Hall is, imo.

Looks like you and JD are on your own Nick – I’m voting for Fassbender.
