DGA Nominations

I don’t see this lineup changing come Oscar night, to be honest. In a way, I wish it would. Darren Aronofsky should be in Howard’s place, in my opinion. But what can you do? I could say it until I went blue in the face, and I probably will too, but nothing will change. The love for Boyle, Fincher and Van Sant makes me warm inside, which is enough I suppose. Here’s to hoping for a Howard snubb come the 22nd of January!
David Fincher – “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Danny Boyle – “Slumdog Millionaire”
Ron Howard – “Frost/Nixon”
Christopher Nolan – “The Dark Knight”
Gus Van Sant – “Milk”

I am saddened by the addition of Chris Nolan. I mean, I love the guy, Memento is an outstanding films and all of his films are amazingly well directed. The Dark Knight just seemed a bit to out of his reach as a filmmaker and it suffered, especially in it’s final act, due to his inabilities to allow things to build with total epic-ality(I am aware that’s not a word). He should have know to cut the film right after the reveal of Two Face and set him up for a third installment, there was simply too much going on at the end of The Dark Knight.
As far as Ron Howard goes, I have yet to see Frost/Nixon, but can feel your pain. I am a great lover of Aronofsky and really hope he gets an Oscar nod for directing this year.

Well shit. I guess there’s no hope for anything breaking in now.
This is a boring list. They’re all good films but…just…ugh

Agreed – Howard is no “great” director whereas Aronofsky’s work in The Wrestler is breathtaking.
